Greece Sees Surge in Hydrochloric Acid Imports Amid Chemicals Demand

Imports of chemical products drive growth as manufacturing sector expands.

• Greece’s imports of hydrochloric acid (HS Code 2806) rose 12% year-on-year to 15,000 metric tons in May.
• The increase is attributed to a surge in demand from the country’s manufacturing sector, particularly from textile and paper producers.
• Prices for hydrochloric acid remained stable at $230 per ton, with suppliers citing adequate global supply to meet growing regional demand.

Greece’s industrial production index has been steadily increasing since the start of 2023, driven by a recovery in domestic demand. As a result, chemical imports have seen a corresponding boost, with hydrochloric acid being one of the key products driving growth. This trend is expected to continue through the summer months, although some analysts caution that supply chain disruptions could impact future shipments.
