**Greek Imports of Biodiesel Components Surge Amid EU Demand**

**Rising European Energy Prices Drive Greek Demand for Fats and Oils**

• The Hellenic Statistical Authority reported a 25% increase in imports of animal, vegetable or microbial fats and oils under HS Code 1518 to Greece.
• Total import volume reached 150,000 metric tons in the first half of the year, primarily sourced from Indonesia and Malaysia.
• Prices for these commodities have risen by around 18% year-on-year due to EU energy price pressures and a seasonal increase in demand.

Greece’s imports of biodiesel components have surged as European energy prices continue to rise, driven by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The country’s refineries are meeting increased demand from the transportation sector, with many EU countries shifting towards biofuels to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Seasonal factors also contribute to higher consumption, as warmer weather increases fuel demand for air conditioning and transportation.
